Horse Riding - Luxor

What:Horse Riding
Where:Luxor West Bank, most taxis will know a stable.
When:Most of the stables are open from about 7am untill late, rides are for 2 or 3 hours depending on the trail you take.
How much:30Le per person, per hour.

Horse riding is an excelent activity for anyone, no matter your skill level, experience or age. The horses in the stable come in a large variety of temprements, with slow and calm horses availble for the inexperienced, to fast and touchy horses for the experinced rider who enjoys being able to have some speed.

There are two rides avalible at the stable we visited. One is a two hour ride, which takes you through paths between fields, and the other is a three hour ride into the desert. We went on the two hour ride (Le 120 for two people). I would recomend this for any group with inexperinced riders in it, as it provides a leasurely walk through some beautiful fields, with ample opportunities to trot for the more advanced riders, and about half way through there is a place where riders may canter if they want to.

While we haven't been on the three hour ride yet, the expericnce was so enjoyable that we started to plan it as soon as we got back. The ride apparently involves alot more running in the open space. Can't wait!

Luxor Archeological Lectures

What: Archeological lectures by various Archeologists, Researchers and Egyptologists
Where: Museam of Mummification, Luxor
When: Saturday nights, lectures start at 7pm precicely, and run from 30minuites to a little over 1 hour.
How Much: Lectures are free, but if you don't pay then the museam is off limits.

The Saturday night lectures are a great way to get a little more information on the archelogical process that is carried out in various sites arround the country. The lectures are aimed at a professional audence, however most people will have no problems understanding and apreciating the majority of the information.

Lecture topics range from things like unpublished theories on unclear sections of Egyptian history to lectures on the restoration process in the toombs and tempels, and almost anything else. All the lectures are given by professionals in the field, so there is a degree of respectability about the whole thing that surpasses the information given by the guides at the locations.

The December 13th lecture was involved with the changing face and ongoing restoration of Luxor temple, offering a unique view of the temple with drawings from as early as the Nepolionic period and photographs from as early as the 1800's untill the current date. Other lectures cover topics that are likewise out of the ordinary.

The Museam of Mummification can be found on the corneich on the east bank of the Nile, down a set of stairs. Be sure to check that the lecture you intend to visit is in a language you understand, the majority of them are in english but on odd occasions languages such as french, german, spanish and italian to mention a few come up.
